Hair Botox vs Keratin Treatment Dubai: Difference, Cost & Which Lasts Longer

Hair Botox vs Keratin Treatment Dubai: Difference, Cost & Which Lasts Longer

If you've sat in a Dubai salon chair recently, you've probably been pitched both hair botox and keratin treatment. The names sound clinical, the price tags are similar (AED 850–1500), and the before-after photos look almost identical. So which one do you actually need?

Short answer: they target different problems. Keratin smooths and straightens. Hair botox repairs and rebuilds. Pick based on whether your main complaint is frizz/wave or dryness/breakage. This guide breaks down the science, real costs in Dubai, suitability per hair type, and aftercare differences so you don't waste AED 1000+ on the wrong one.

How Keratin Treatment Works

Your hair is naturally made of keratin, a fibrous protein. Heat damage, chemical processing, hard water and Dubai's sun gradually deplete that keratin, leaving the cuticle layer raised — which is why hair looks frizzy and dull.

A keratin treatment works by applying a liquid keratin formulation to washed hair, blow-drying it in, then sealing it with a flat iron at 200–230°C. The heat fuses the keratin onto each strand, smoothing the cuticle layer flat. The result is straighter, glossy, manageable hair that air-dries frizz-free.

Modern organic keratin treatments (which Blush N Curls offers) skip formaldehyde and use plant-derived smoothing agents, making them safe for pregnant women and chemically sensitive skin.

How Hair Botox Works

Hair botox has nothing to do with the cosmetic injection — it’s a marketing name. The treatment is a deep-conditioning protein mask containing:

  • Hydrolysed keratin and collagen — rebuild internal hair structure
  • B5 (panthenol) — deeply hydrates the cortex
  • Caviar oil, argan, BB cream complex — seal moisture
  • Amino acids — fill in damaged gaps in the hair shaft

Unlike keratin which coats the surface, hair botox penetrates and replenishes from inside. It does not relax curl. Curly girls love it because they keep their natural pattern but lose the dryness, breakage and dullness.

Which Should You Pick? A Hair Type Cheat Sheet

You should pick Keratin if:

  • Your main daily struggle is frizz or unmanageable wave
  • You want to skip blow-drying every day
  • You have wavy-to-curly hair you actively want straighter
  • Hair is healthy but unruly
  • You live with Dubai humidity making blowouts collapse in 2 hours

You should pick Hair Botox if:

  • Hair is breaking off, snapping when brushed, looks fried at ends
  • You’ve over-coloured, balayaged or bleached hair multiple times
  • Hair feels straw-like, dull, lifeless — even after deep conditioning
  • You love your curl/wave and want it healthier, not straighter
  • You’re prepping for a major colour service in 4–6 weeks (botox first, colour after)

Get both (sequenced) if:

  • Hair is BOTH damaged AND frizzy — do hair botox first to repair, wait 4 weeks, then keratin

Aftercare: The Rules That Actually Matter

Keratin treatment aftercare:

  1. Don’t wash hair for 48–72 hours after treatment
  2. No tying hair, no clips, no hairbands during that wait
  3. Switch to sulphate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo permanently. Sulphates strip the keratin coating fast.
  4. Avoid swimming pools (chlorine) and seawater for 2 weeks — chlorine will fade results in days. If you swim, wet hair with tap water and apply a leave-in conditioner first.
  5. Avoid heavy oils on the lengths for the first week

Hair botox aftercare:

  1. Wait 24 hours before first wash
  2. Sulphate-free shampoo (same as keratin)
  3. You CAN tie hair right away — no setting time needed
  4. Use a weekly hydrating mask to extend results

Are These Treatments Safe During Pregnancy?

This is the most-asked question in our salons. The simple rule:

  • Formaldehyde-containing keratin = AVOID during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Organic / formaldehyde-free keratin and hair botox = generally considered safe, but always check with your doctor first.

Always ask the salon for the product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). If they can’t produce it, walk out. At Blush N Curls every product used is fully disclosed and formaldehyde-free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will hair botox or keratin damage my hair?

Done correctly with quality products, neither damages hair — both actually improve hair condition. Damage usually comes from over-application, excess heat, or low-grade products.

Can I colour my hair after?

Wait 2 weeks after keratin (the treatment fades the colour pigment if applied immediately). Hair botox is fine to do right before a colour service — many stylists actually recommend it.

Which lasts longer in Dubai humidity?

Keratin lasts longer (3–5 months) and handles humidity better because it physically seals the cuticle. Hair botox needs touch-ups every 2–3 months.

Will I lose volume?

Keratin can flatten very fine hair temporarily — ask for a lighter formula. Hair botox does not reduce volume; it strengthens fine hair.

Is hair botox the same as nanoplastia?

No. Nanoplastia is closer to keratin (smoothing/straightening) but uses smaller molecules. See our nanoplastia vs keratin guide for detail.
